Automatic cloud backup ensures your data survives device theft, damage, or loss.

Enable automatic cloud backup on all devicesiCloud for Apple devices, Google One for Android. Set to backup daily. Your data matters, not the device. Verify your cloud backup is workingCheck your cloud account to confirm files are there. Test by deleting a file locally, then restoring it from the cloud. Enable cloud backup for your photos and videosPhotos are your most valuable data. Make sure iCloud Photos, Google Photos, or OneDrive are backing up automatically. Set cloud storage to sync all folders (not selective sync)Some cloud services let you choose which folders to sync. Disable this. Back up everything.

🔐 Encryption & Device Security

Full-disk encryption protects your data if your device is stolen.

Enable full-disk encryption on all devicesFileVault on Mac, BitLocker on Windows, or device encryption on Linux. This is built-in and free. Do it now. Enable automatic OS updates on all devicesSecurity patches are released weekly. Enable automatic updates so you're protected the moment patches are available. Enable Find My Device on all phones and laptopsIf stolen, you can locate, lock, or erase your device remotely. This is your emergency eject button. Set up a strong PIN/password for your phone lock screenA strong PIN (6+ digits, no birthdate) protects your encryption key. Without it, even disk encryption is vulnerable.

📱 App Permissions & Privacy

Apps request access to camera, microphone, location, and contacts. Review and restrict these permissions.

Audit camera and microphone permissionsGo to Settings > Apps and review which apps have camera/microphone access. Revoke these for apps that don't need them (social media, news apps, etc). Review location permission for all appsFew apps actually need location. Change these to "Only While Using App" or "Never" for most apps. Revoke contact and calendar access from unnecessary appsSocial media, games, and shopping apps don't need access to your contacts or calendar. Disable these. Disable background app refresh for apps that don't need itApps running in the background drain battery and can leak data. Disable for social media, games, and entertainment apps.
